Achievements: VMSB/VMTB-454 was the first to conduct a combat test of airborne forward-firing rockets in an attack against Japanese forces in Keravia Bay, Rabaul, New Britain, on February 17, 1944. However, it's noted that the squadron did not see combat during their deployment on the USS Puget Sound in July 1945, as the war ended before they could be engaged in combat missions.
